It was decided that Sukma will be held every year from 2011 onwards and fencing was included in the 14th edition with Wilayah Persekutuan as the host. Once again Koh I Jie proved too strong for his opponents retaining his gold medal in men's individual epee for the fourth time. His will be a hard act to follow. Johore, after a disappointing outing in the previous sukma came back strongly to grab 7 gold medals dislodging Selangor at the top. FT was the most improved state by winning 2 golds, 4 silvers and 5 bronzes. This is FT's best performance to date.

SUKMA XIII - MELAKA 2010
Dates - 11th Jun - 16th Jun
Venue - Komplek Sukan Batu Berendam, Melaka
Participating States/Country - (11) Brunei (BRU), FT (FT), Johore (Jhr), Malacca (Mkz), N.Sembilan (NS), Penang (Pen), Perak (Prk), Perlis (Per), Sabah (Sbh), Selangor (Sel), Terengganu (Tgg)

Fortunately fencing was included into the 13th edition of Sukan Malaysia (Sukma) after a long anxious wait. Melaka, the birthplace of fencing in Malaysia will host this edition. Kedah and Sarawak did not sent any fencers to participate while Brunei makes a return. Koh I Jie started the ball rolling on the first day by defending his individual epee gold medal which he won in Terengganu two years ago. His brother Koh I Wei also managed to defend his individual foil gold medal thus making them the first siblings to win an individual gold medal back to back in two Sukmas. Selangor came very well prepared to win 5 goal medals displacing Johore as the top fencing state. Sabah came back strongly on the last day to grab the last 2 gold medals to maintain their number two overall position.

Venue - Dewan Sultan Mizan UMT, Mengabang Telipot, Terengganu
Participating States/Country - (12) FT (FT), Johore (Jhr), Kedah (Kdh), Malacca (Mkz), N.Sembilan (NS), Penang (Pen), Perak (Prk), Perlis (Per), Sabah (Sbh), Sawarak (Swk), Selangor (Sel), Terengganu (Tgg)

Host Terengganu and Perlis are the newest state associations to participate in the 12th edition of Sukan Malaysia (Sukma). The total number of states now is 12 excluding Brunei which did not take part. Evy James from Sabah won the first gold medal on the first day to grab back the tradition of Sabah's strong women foil fencers. Johore maintained it's top billing with 5 gold medals while Sabah managed to put asside a disappointing previous Sukma to come charging back with 3 gold medals. But the biggest surprise was host Terengganu who did very well to win 2 gold medals on it's maiden debut.
